What sets Dakota Kitchen and Bath apart from other cabinet companies?

At Dakota Kitchen and Bath, we pride ourselves on offering more than just cabinets—we deliver custom craftsmanship tailored to your lifestyle. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to quality, attention to detail, and personalized customer service. Each cabinet is built with precision and care, using premium materials to ensure lasting beauty and functionality. Unlike mass-produced options, our cabinets are designed to fit your unique space perfectly. Our experienced team works closely with you from concept to installation, ensuring your vision becomes a reality. With Dakota Kitchen and Bath, you’re not just purchasing cabinets—you’re investing in timeless quality and design built specifically for your home.

How do I clean my cabinets?

To keep your Dakota Kitchen and Bath cabinets looking their best, we recommend regular cleaning with a soft cloth and a mild soap-and-water solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or scouring pads, as they can damage the finish. Simply wipe down surfaces with a damp cloth, then dry immediately with a clean, soft towel. For stubborn spots, a gentle dish soap (such as Ivory) diluted in water usually does the trick.

For cabinets with our stained satin finishes, we recommend applying pure lemon oil every three months to enhance and preserve the wood’s natural beauty. Pure lemon oil is typically found in the cleaning supplies section.

To maintain the beauty of your cabinetry, avoid excessive moisture and quickly clean up any spills. With proper care, your cabinets will stay beautiful for years to come.

How do I start the cabinet process?

Getting started with your custom cabinetry project at Dakota Kitchen and Bath is simple! We recommend beginning with these steps:

  1. Gather Inspiration: Start by collecting ideas and inspiration for your project. Consider styles, colors, and layouts that resonate with your vision. Browse magazines, Pinterest, or our gallery for ideas.
  2. Evaluate Your Space: Take a look at your current space. Think about what works well and what you’d like to improve. Consider your storage needs, functionality, and overall flow.
  3. Set a Budget: Having an idea of your budget will help guide decisions along the way. Custom cabinetry offers a range of options, and we can help find the best solution within your price range.
  4. Schedule a Consultation: Reach out to our team to schedule a design consultation. We’ll walk you through the process, discuss your ideas, and explore options tailored to your space.

Things to Consider:

  • Lifestyle Needs: How do you use your kitchen, bathroom, or other spaces? Are you a frequent cook, entertainer, or looking for more organization? What kinds of countertops to you prefer?
  • Appliances & Fixtures: If you’re planning to update appliances or fixtures, consider their placement and dimensions early on.
  • Materials & Finishes: Do you prefer natural wood, painted finishes, or something else? Do you have a preference on door/drawer style, overlay or inset cabinets, what hardware you like, height of cabinets/ceilings, and what accessories you cannot live without. We can guide you through our selection.
  • Timeline: Custom cabinetry is built to order, so consider your desired timeline and any upcoming renovations.
  • Future Plans: Think long-term—will your needs change in the next few years? Designing with flexibility can be a smart approach.
What does cabinet overlay mean?

Cabinet overlay refers to how the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are positioned in relation to the cabinet frame. There are two main types of overlays:

  1. Full Overlay: The doors and drawer fronts cover most or all of the cabinet frame, creating a sleek, modern look with minimal gaps between doors.
  2. Standard Overlay: The doors and drawer fronts cover only part of the cabinet frame, leaving more of the frame visible. This is a more traditional style.

The type of overlay you choose impacts both the appearance and functionality of your cabinetry. Our design team at Dakota Kitchen and Bath can walk you through the options and help determine which overlay style best suits your space and personal taste.

How are your cabinets finished?

At Dakota Kitchen and Bath, we use high-quality finishing processes to ensure your cabinets are both beautiful and durable:

  • Stained Cabinets: Our stained cabinets are finished with an anti-yellowing, solvent-based conversion varnish that includes UV light inhibitors. This finish helps protect the wood and maintain the richness of your stain color over time.
  • Painted Cabinets: Our painted cabinets are finished using a tintable solid color coating that is baked on for a smooth, durable, and long-lasting surface.

These professional finishing techniques ensure your cabinetry will withstand daily use while retaining its beauty for years to come.
